Homemade Embroidered Patches (Iron-on backing) - 8 designs
Designed, digitised and made by Chantelle Que @chantelleque.art

  • Embroidered patches designed, based on original illustration work, using digitising software

  • Patches are made by cutting/preparing base fabric and stabilisers in embroidery hoop, designs are run on an embroidery machine, trim and thread each colour, then finalised by hand - trim jump stitches, remove stabiliser, and apply iron-on backing. Patches are made in low quantity batches.

  • Materials: high quality polyester thread - 100% colourfast, hi-sheen and fine (40 weight) thread to achieve detailed designs. Polyester twill base fabric to add stability to patches and reduce use of interfacing material. Iron-on adhesive applied to back of patches.
All thread, fabric and material scraps are collected and saved for future reuse/repurpose eg. include in stuffing, thread trimmings used to hand sew patches temporarily onto apparel. Wash-away stabilisers (material used for hoops) are cut as close as possible to finished embroidered patches and scraps are saved to be reused eg. smaller pieces of stabilisers are sewn together to be able to be used for hoops again or dissolved to make fabric stiffener. Water with dissolved wash-away stabiliser is kept in one jar to use as fabric stiffener.

  • Packaging: paper card and paper glassine - patches are not packaged individually, instead are packed (together if multiple patches) when purchased with instructions in one folded paper card pocket and paper glassine bag (water resistant) to reduce packaging use/waste.
